Frequency of measurement of vital signs in the Emergency Department (ED) have always been guided by patient’s clinical condition. Patients present to us at varying degrees of unwellness that oftentimes how frequently we re-assess patients relies on the nurse’s level of comfort and clinical experience. That is until now. Here in Australasia at least, the College of Emergency Nurses Australasia and the Austalasian College for Emergency Medicine has finally released the Joint Position Statement on Vital Signs Monitoring int eh Emergency Departments. Here they have set-out the minimum frequency of vital signs monitoring based on patient’s level of acuity and clinical condition. I’ve condensed that information here in this infographics below to make it easier to disseminate to my colleageues.
